PUFF PASTRY ROSES

I made these puff pastry apple roses yesterday and I must say they are mighty tasty! I used Golden delicious apples but think that a red skin will work better and not get so dark. They still have the wow factor though and if you enjoy apple pie it’s a nice easy treat.

  • puff pastry
  • apples, cored and thinly sliced
  • melted butter
  • cinnamon sugar (castor sugar and cinnamon mixed)

Place cored and thinly sliced apples on a plate and microwave for 2 minutes.
Cover with glad wrap and a dishcloth and set aside.
Cut puff pastry into strips, around 5 cm each.
Spread each strip with melted butter and then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar.
Layer the apples overlapping and slightly over the middle top half of each strip.
Fold bottom half of pastry onto apple as and spread with melted butter and some more cinnamon and sugar.
Roll into rose looking pastry.
Spray and cook a muffin pan and then use melted butter and sugar to line.
Put apple roses in muffin pans and bake until golden and cooked around 40 min. at 300ºC.
Take out the oven and cool.
Sprinkle with a little icing sugar if you want and serve with some ice cream or eat the next day as is.
