CHEESE MADE FROM MILKPOWDER
So, I have been on a cheese making mission. But where I live in Botswana, I can’t get raw cow’s milk. Then I saw you can make cheese with powdered milk… well they all failed.
Then I found this recipe and wow I made cheats cheese. Taste a bit like Melrose cheese that you can slice. It does not melt though.
- ½ litre water
- 1 cup powdered milk
- ½ cup Maizena
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 3 glides over a grater of gouda cheese, to give flavour
- 1 teaspoon salt, but I used cheese Aromat instead.
Mix all in a pot. I used a hand whisk.
Now heat slowly so the cheese can melt and the Maizena can cook. Whisk slowly constantly so it does not burn or stick to the bottom.
Allow it to start boiling for a minute or 2. But keep whisking. Make sure the raw Maizena taste is gone.
Add the white vinegar and stir in.
Take off the heat and place in a mould. I used a Tupperware.
No spraying or lying out required. Leave in the fridge to set for about 6 hours.
Note:
Next time I will add in biltong spice, or even dried rosemary and garlic powder… can’t wait to explore more varieties.
Enjoy.
