SPICY BEEF AND LENTIL SOUP

It’s cold so we’re having a spicy beef and lentil soup with chicken Tikka, chips and roti.

  • Alifa ready made lentil mix
  • 1 onion
  • butter for frying
  • 500 g steak, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup water
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • 4 cups water

In a pot on medium heat, braise the onion in the butter.
Add the steak, 1 cup of water, salt, pepper, garlic, chillies, cinnamon stick, cardamom powder and turmeric.
Cover the pot and let it cook until the meat is tender.
Add the 4 cups of water and the lentil mixture to the pot, cover and let it cook for a further 2 hours on low heat.
Once the soup is smooth, add the fried onions, extra garlic and cumin seeds to taste.
Lovely to have on a cold day.
