NUTELLA SQUARES
I made some Nutella squares today and they are delicious. I used a jam square recipe and substituted the jam for Nutella. Here is the recipe:
- 250 g butter, melted and cooled
- 1 jumbo egg
- ½ cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 3 cups of cake flour
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 350 g jar of Nutella
Preheat oven to 180ºC.
Line a rectangular oven dish with baking paper.
Beat the melted butter, egg, sugar and vanilla together using an electric mixer, until well mixed.
Add the cake flour and baking powder in another bowl and mix together.
Add about half of the flour to the egg mixture and mix together.
Slowly add the rest of the flour to the egg mixture and continue mixing.
The dough will be slightly crumbly but will hold together.
Divide the dough into 3.
Wrap one part of the dough and place in the freezer.
Press the other two parts onto the baking dish. It will look like a thin cookie crust.
Slightly heat the Nutella and spread evenly over the cookie crust.
Take the dough from the freezer and grate it over the Nutella.
Bake in the oven for 30 – 35 minutes until golden brown on top. (Keep a close eye on the mixture if you bake it for longer as it turns golden quite quickly.)
Gently cut into squares as soon as it comes from the oven and leave it to cool in the pan.
If you like a thicker crust just use a smaller baking tray.
Hope you enjoy.
