MANDY’S OLD FASHIONED SAGO PUDDING

MANDY’S OLD FASHIONED SAGO PUDDING

  • Heat the following and cook on low heat:
  • 1.2 liters of milk
  • 1 piece stick cinnamon
  • 1 cup of sago soaked in water for about 15 minutes.

Stirring until it is the consistency of cooked oats.
Remove from stove, remove the cinnamon stick and cool. Make sure it is not hot anymore, otherwise you are going to sit with scramble egg at the end 🙂

  • Mix the following and add to the sago:
  • 125 g melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs well mixed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add to cooled sago mixture and blend well. Turn out into a greased dish and bake at 180 °C for 40 minutes, remove from oven, spread some melted apricot jam over the top and return to oven for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and serve warm with custard.

Tis was my very first time I’ve tried baking a pudding, i followed the recipe to the T and it came out great just like my moms. It was very sweet though maybe a 3/4 cup of sugar

    Can you use tastic?

    • Hi Robyn
I have never tried it with rice, I think rice will cook longer than sago, maybe basmati, but like I said I have never tried it with rice, please let us know if you have tried it and post a picture, will be very interesting to know.

    • Robyn, please read the comment, so you can make it with rice with success.. enjoy
The recipe was absolutely yummy but I made mine with rice because we don’t have sago here in turkey.just boil the rice before hand until overly cooked

Beat some egg white with castor sugar. Scoop it onto the sago. Bake until golden brown, like you would do when making lemon tart

Had to bake it a lot longer but it turned out delicious. Almost with a creme brûlée type crispy topping.

Followed the whole recipe step by step – the top was really good however the rest felt too liquid for my liking – on a good note most liked it

    • Hi Sommer, I think you might have not baked it long enough, remember in any recipe the time is only an indication, beacuse ovens differs, so any thing that you bake, you must bake until the testing pin comes out clean. Thanks for your feedback.
