HOMEMADE BIRD SUET WITH PEANUT BUTTER

HOMEMADE BIRD SUET WITH PEANUT BUTTER

Our suet balls are the perfect supplement for garden birds. Perfect for hanging from a tree or adding to a bird feeder, these delicious suet balls will help to bring a diverse range of wild birds flocking into your garden.

  • 1 cup shortening (we rendered out hard fat to make tallow)
  • 1 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup cornmeal (mieliemeel)
  • 2 cups birdseed

Melt the shortening and peanut butter together in a heavy saucepan over medium heat.
Do not boil.
Remove from heat and stir in the oatmeal, birdseed and cornmeal.
Spoon the mixture into small containers of your choice and press it tightly down to shape the ‘bricks’ of suet.
Place the containers with the suet in the freezer overnight.
Carefully remove the solid suet from the containers and feed the birds.
