A quick and easy substitute for koesisters!
- 25 ml butter, melted
- 20 ml sugar
- 2 eggs
- 4 × 250 ml self raising flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 250 ml milk
- 250 ml water
- 750 ml sunflower oil for deep fry
- coconut for sprinkling
- Whisk butter, eggs and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy. Add vanilla essence.
- In a separate bowl sift flour and baking powder twice. Add flour mixture to egg mixture.
- Add milk/water and mix into a soft sticky dough.
- Allow to rest for 30 minutes.
- Place teaspoons full of mixture in hot oil and fry until golden brown.
- Hint:
Dip spoon in cold water to ensure that dough separates from spoon to form neatly rounded balls when dropped in oil. - Syrup:
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 ½ cup water
- Boil together until sticky.
- You may add water if syrup becomes too sticky.
- Pour syrup in a pan.
- Heat through, add bollas in syrup and boil 1 – 2 minutes until glossy, lift out and sprinkle with coconut.
