BLACKENED PAN-SEARED AHI TUNA
This dish was prepared, tried and tested by Esme’s husband.
- Marinade:
- 75 ml dark soy sauce
- 50 ml maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) chopped garlic
- Ahi tuna steaks (Yellowfin tuna)
The ingredients listed are only a rough estimate, as the ratio soy sauce to maple syrup can be varied depending on how salty or sweet you wish to have it.
Reserve ± 25 ml of the sauce, if desired, for drizzling on the cooked fish when served.
Pour the rest of the sauce over the pieces of fish in a sealable bag. Marinate for an hour.
Heat non-stick pan to very hot, add 5 – 10 ml of olive oil.
Put your Ahi tuna steaks in the pan.
Turn after 1 – 1½ minutes and do the other side and then remove after 1 – 1½ more minutes.
If you prefer you can add some toasted sesame or regular sesame seed to the tuna (See image)
Serve with a fresh green salad. Arugula leaves go well with it, but this time I used regular lettuce as I did not have any arugula leaves.
